Web Hosting And FTP Explained

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is used as a way to upload or download data to the internet. And in terms of web hosting it is quite important because it is probably one of the most common ways of uploading websites to the internet. FTP is used to get websites online once they have been created and the owner is happy with the finished site. And even though there are other ways to upload websites to the internet, the majority of websites are uploaded using FTP.

What is File Transfer Protocol (FTP)?

FTP is known as a network protocol and it enables various server and client applications to communicate with each other. One of the best things about FTP is that it allows different operating systems to share data. For instance you could send information from a Windows operating system to a Mac system. It has been around since the early seventies; it was originally referred to as RFC114.

The relationship between Web Hosting and FTP

When you create your web pages you will more than likely transfer it to the web host using FTP. It will then stay on the server until somebody wants to visit the site. And FTP will then be used to transfer it to the system of the visitor. There are quite a few different FTP programs that will allow you to upload your pages to your server, but they all do much the same thing. In recent years there were concerns raised about security when it came to FTP but these concerns were quickly dealt with by developers.

File Transfer Protocol is something that is frequently mentioned but most of us don’t really consider what it actually involves. Most of us only care about the fact that it works to make our website available to visitors who might want to view them.

Anybody thinking about venturing into internet marketing should have UK web hosting sorted out. Newbie’s can find, though, that the web hosting world can be rather confusing. An example of this could be coming across reseller web hosting or even linux web hosting on your travels.
