Question by jason b: how to i know the “host” for my web hoster? like for filezilla?
title says it all
okay i ment like i bought a web hosting service. and i want to upload my files to it from filezilla. how do i find out the host name for that?

Best answer:

Answer by VirtualSound
Filezilla is an FTP server, usually you run that on your own PC to allow another PC to download or upload files from/to it. If you;re trying to transfer files around at home you can use the filezilla server’s IP address as it’s host name. If you are running Windows on the filezilla box then open a command prompt (try typing cmd into the programs/files box in the Startup menu for WIndows 7, then hit enter. For XP try File/Run then type in cmd or maybe command.
At the command prompt type “ipconfig” and look for the IP address (maybe IP v4 address) in the results. If there is more than one (wireless and and Ethernet, for example) use the one that connects you to the other PC: if you are connecting wirelessly use the wireless IP address, if you are plugged in via an Ethernet cable then use the Ethernet adapter’s IP address. It probably should look like 4 numbers separated by periods (mine is 192.168.1.107). Use that as the host name.

Question by dave: Is it possible to create a web page from an Access db and “host” it on a network folder?
I’m limited in resources. But I need to have teams access and enter data but this realy should be web based. (Access applications already exists but Main apps on on a local hard drive(mine) It would suck if I were out and reporting could not get done.) I do not have access to a web server and going through a “hosting” company is not an option at this point. Users at any given point should be under 30.

Question by Elyas: What are the significances to be considered while purchasing “Domain Name and Web Host”?
Dear Friends,

I have planned to publish my own web site so I am now ready to purchase “Domain Name and Web Host” via Internet. so, Plz. Express your marvellous experience and Idea about “Domain & Host” and which Domin Name is popular in the world ex.(com.net.org.) and what are the significances to be considered in mind before ordering Domain & Host

Best answer:

Answer by JackK
The domain extension or TLD (.com, .net, .org) will depend on the type of website you’re starting. If it is a charity site, a .org would be better. If it is a commercial site, a .com is recommended. However the most popular TLD is .com, therefore when people search for your site, the first thing that comes to their mind is .com.

When buying hosting, you can usually find plans that offer a free domain along side the hosting. Be sure your host has a website builder and an automatic script installer for scripts like WordPress. I’ve always recommended http://wiredkey.com since they offer everything you need.

Question by Ustun Inan Insurance: Do you use a “Domain Hosting” Company to maintain your website?
I have seen web hosting companies advertised from “Free” to several hundreds dollars.
Please tell me what these companies do to earn their money?
Who do you use for “Web Hosting” and are you happy with them?

Ustun Inan Insurance

Best answer:

Answer by John R
“Free” put ads on your site and make money that way, and paid charge you for it.

If you need a real website you have to buy hosting and a domain name.

I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/

Powweb has the best offer right now. It’s on a 50% sale – $ 3.88/month ($ 46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them. (like www.yourwebsite.com)

Their hosting plan includes web builder, so you can create your site just by drag and drop (without any programming), or you could install WordPress (easy, one click install from their control panel), choose a theme that you like, and start adding content.
